About
We’re proud of our long history in Kelowna!
Fragments of band history have been located but no full records exist. It has been established that the band existed as early as 1894, even before Kelowna was incorporated as a city.
With brief interruptions during World War I and World War II the band has operated continuously ever since.
The picture to the left was taken in about 1900.
Our membership fluctuates but is usually about 50 musicians from throughout the Central Okanagan. Our members are all ages from teens to seniors and all players are volunteers, donating their time for rehearsals and concerts. The band plays at a variety of local functions including annual Remembrance Day ceremonies, Canada Day Folkfest celebrations, Rutland May Days, public concerts in parks, seniors’ homes and other locations and annual fundraising concerts for local charities.
